Clinic day is anticipated with a sense of hope and promise for many people needing surgery. This year the clinic was held in a hall sponsored by Rotary. When we arrived, the line up of patients and their families practically extended around the building. We were greeted with applause, much to our embarrassment. Over the next 8 hours we saw 60 new patients and 30 patients who had received surgery in previous missions. Even though 90% needed surgery, we can accommodate up to 27 surgeries over the few days we are here. So choosing those in the greatest need is a challenge.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital the rest of the team is unpacking all of the bags and setting up the supplies for the OR and the ward. By the end of the day, we are ready to start the surgeries. So far everything is progressing well.
