In 2013 we first met Rosa, she was 22 at that time. She had a total hip done previously by another mission team and it became infected. At that time our team did a washout and put her on antibiotics. In 2014 we revised the infected hip. Fast forward to this mission and Rosa has returned with considerable pain in the hip. It was thought that the cup part of the hip was loose and needed to be replaced. All of her blood work was normal. But once into surgery it was discovered that she had a severe infection and the whole prosthesis had to be removed. She will be limited in her ability to walk. Now, she is on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks to be followed up with oral antibiotics for a few more months. Then the decision will be to put in a new hip next year. Operation Walk has agreed to pay for her ongoing care until she is ready for surgery. This will be a considerable expense, as she has to be hospitalized while receiving the IV antibiotics, but there are no other options for Rosa and she does not have the means to cover her treatment. Perhaps there would be some donors who would be willing to help Rosa financially to cover this expense. Donors can make a donation through our website in Rosa’s name or contact us directly. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
