These patients suffer from debilitating bone and joint disease, the most common of which is osteoarthritis, and have little or no access to medical care.
Mission trips typically last one week and are organized and managed so that as many patients as possible can undergo surgery and begin their rehabilitation and recovery. During this week, the medical care of patients is the joint responsibility of in-country physicians, physiotherapists and registered nurses and their Operation Walk counterparts so that ongoing patient care, once the team has returned home, is assured.
The work of Operation Walk Canada relies entirely on the generosity of private and corporate donors.
Operation Walk Canada’s team is made up of orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, internists, physiotherapists, RNs expertise in orthopaedic operating room procedures, RNs who specialize in orthopaedic post-operative nursing, supply processing/sterilization technicians and general volunteers.
The Operation Walk Canada Team is:
To bring first-world health care to indigent residents of developing countries who suffer from debilitating bone and joint disease.
Operation Walk has two equally important, interdependent goals:
The generosity of donors makes Operation Walk Canada’s work possible.
While all team members are volunteers who pay for their own transportation and accommodations, and all surgical implants are donated by Smith & Nephew Inc, the majority of the remaining necessary supplies and equipment must be purchased. 100% of your donations go toward these expenses which are directly associated with the work of each mission.
Operation Walk Canada is registered not-for-profit charity, CRA # 856060090 RTOOO1 and all donations are receiptable for income tax purposes.
Without the hip and knee joint implants that Smith & Nephew Inc donates, our work would not be possible. Exactec Canada donates knee and hip spacers necessary for revision procedures and Producers Post, London, Ontario looks after filming and producing of all our videos. We extend our sincere thanks to these and many more organizations for their ongoing generosity and support.
